Advance 3 Day Event a Huge Success

46 doctors and staff were "wowed and amazed" at the amount of useful information handed to them in June by Dr. Burl and Sharon Pettibon, as well as several Pettibon Instructors.

Friday afternoon was all about clinical experience, and those fortunate enough to sign up before this event sold out, were treated to exam procedures, evaluation, x-ray reviews, and a Report of Findings by Dr. Pettibon himself.  Sharon Pettibon then taught hands on applications for pre-mobilization procedures, and the patients were then mobilized by Dr. Morningstar and Dr. Elmer.  Dr. Pettibon then evaluated the patient’s posture, compared them with their x-rays, and fit them with the appropriate Head and Body Weights. After the patients performed a series of post mobilization procedures, they were re-x-rayed and the pre and post x-rays were compared.  Everyone was amazed at the positive changes seen in this group of patients.

Saturday morning was filled with new information we have been working on, and the patients seen the previous day  had follow-up care.  Drs. Sorum, Doyle, Hoetger, Morningstar and Elmer then reviewed x-rays in small groups and helped the doctors out with technique and set up, as well as proper biomechanical understandings of why we do what we do in the Pettibon System.

Throughout the weekend, Sharon Pettibon gave some phenomenal instructions on financial plans, how to set up an efficient office and many other clinical and administrative pearls of wisdom.   She also did quite a bit of hands on training in the rehab department and took care of many folks through the weekend.   It was obvious that she has vast experience in these areas, and everyone was grateful for the opportunity to learn form the master of collections!

Saturday afternoon was an introduction into the Mentorship/Clinical Proficiency Program and was very well received.  The doctors we spoke with are extremely excited about this program, as are all the mentors/instructors involved.  Look to next month’s newsletter for a more detailed explanation of this phenomenal program.

Dr. Mark Morningstar brought us all up to date on The State of Pettibon and the current status of our research projects.  Read his blurb in this newsletter for more details!

Dr. Pat McNeil introduced a new program named “The Blair Project”, which is designed to help parents and adults explain the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse to their children and students.  Great program.  Thanks Dr. Pat.

Dr. Roger Elmer then gave one of the most stirring talks I have ever heard regarding the Future of The Pettibon System.  Entitled “To The Moon”, it was a deeply emotional call to action for all.   With this amount of passion, there is no doubt why Dr. Elmer is so successful in all areas of his life.  Great job Roger!!!!!

The afternoon was concluded with Dr. Pettibon giving a detailed presentation on the P-SRT  (Pettibon – Spinal Rejuvenation Table) and its use.  Several patients were evaluated and treated with fantastic results.

Sunday morning started early with Dr. Pettibon fielding a  Q and A session at 7:30.  The remainder of the morning was filled with clinical pearls of information from the instructors, and treatments of the doctors/patients were continued.

This was one of the most awe filled and inspiring weekends I have ever experienced in the Pettibon System.  This was the prototype weekend to develop our Practicum’s and all involved were very happy with the chain of events over this exhausting three day event.  Dr. Elmer just completed the practicum this weekend in his Las Vegas office.  Look for a report in next month’s newsletter on this event.  And make sure to get scheduled for the next one -- these events are selling out fast!!!

I would just like to take a moment and give a profound “Thank You” to Dr. and Mrs. Pettibon for the time, energy and commitment it took to put on this event.  I know it wasn’t easy and I watched you guys work very hard, not just on these three days, but for several weeks prior to this event.  I also want to thank the following people for taking the time out of your schedule to come out to AZ in June (yes, it was 114 degrees, but worth it!) to help:  Dr. Roger Elmer, Dr. Mark Morningstar, Dr. Scot Sorum, Dr. Ryan Doyle, Dr Rainer Hoetger, Karen Hoetger, Dr. Pat McNeil,  and of course Donita Andrews.  Thanks also to Jenn and Sandy and all the Pettibon Team for all your work.  This was truly a team event and you all did a phenomenal job. Your enthusiasm and abilities are greatly admired and appreciated.

Finally, a great big thanks to all the participants.  We are so excited that this went as well as it did. – Thanks for being here, and thanks for your input!  Special award to Dr. Husain Ali, who has traveled 4 times this year to seminars in the States – his flight from Bahrain is 26 hours EACH way!  Why was it again you couldn’t be there?

Thank You Does Not Cover IT!

Donita and Dr. Andrews opened their lovely home to the instructors/mentors during the June seminar in Arizona. Not only did they plan the event and orchestrate the event but they put people in their beds and food on the table! While we worked as a team to create the event syllabus, the behind the scenes work that is necessary for such an event to even happen requires total concentration and organization. We honor Donita and Tom and appreciate all they do with complete lack of ego and humility. When you think of any event that has happened over the past four years, it has always had one or the other or both involved with it. Remember to thank them when you see them.

What others are saying about the Advance 3 Day event:

Hey Tom!
Just wanted to say that that was an AWESOME seminar.   (man I hate the '80s lingo there but I don't know how else to express it...)   One of the best I have ever been to, period.   When do we get to start with a mentor?   Any way, a huge thank you to you and your wonderful wife Donita from my wife and I.   We came back ready to make some changes and GET IT ON!   We decided, for our anniversary we are going to go to the Practicum in Vegas at Roger's office.   Already looking forward to it!

Thanks,

Tom,
Great Seminar, Burl is a trip. He should do stand up. LOL.
Thanks for hosting and all your hard work.

Hi Tom,

I'm often not good at expressing appreciation and I want you to know it was a fantastic experience for me besides a baptism into the wonderful world of Pettibon.   Not only for me but for my CA as well.   We're both stoked.   I stopped to give my black belt bladder control a very much needed rest at the Quick Stop just before dropping  off my CA., and because the counter kid was so nice to give me a key with no grief, I wanted to do something for him.   I asked him if he had any health problems and explained I was a DC, I then completely broke through his barriers ( he had a slightly wondering eye he was in denial about) and as I looked harder I could see he was a P3.   Never been in an accident he was adamant about but when I asked him about his childhood, "oh well yeah I was ran over by a car"!   He gave me his number and was excited about coming in for a consult.

Tom,

A little more about the weekend...

I had a great time and it has invigorated me with a new passion for the work.   It is so important for docs to be able to have a network and ability to do something like was done at least yearly.   For some of the docs like Dr. ***   that are new to the system, that weekend just assured that they wouldn't have to spend a year guessing and trying to accumulate info and set things up right in their office as I and many others had to.   Hopefully the mentorship will accomplish this "put it all together" factor in the future.   Things are really going in the right direction with the system.

"I came home and bought a globe and put it on my desk, what an awesome presentation Roger gave."

Interprofessional Communications Seminar Coming Soon

The interprofessional communications seminar is coming to the Seattle area.  The course is scheduled for Oct. 4th and 5th at Dr. Christian Cohen’s clinic in Gig Harbor. The course's developer, Dr. Mark Morningstar, shares his experience in establishing solid relationships with medical physicians that result in consistent referral opportunities. This is the only course of its type taught by a medical physician. Dr. Megan Strauchman is the co-instructor for this course. She provides invaluable insight into the mentality of the medical community, the medical referral process, the hospital routine, and how to become involved in your local hospital. The course has limited enrollment, we plan to limit at 25 participants. Each participant will receive an updated binder of sample forms, templates, and scripts so the information can be used Monday morning.

Here is what other docs have been saying about this seminar:

"While attending Module II of the Pettibon System seminars, I first heard Dr. Morningstar mention the fact that the majority of his new patient base is referred in by MD's.  My mind then immediately opened to this great new possibility.  Over the past couple of years, and with his expert guidance, I have learned to cultivate this exceptional resource of mostly all "pre-committed-to-care" new patients. My practice now receives about 80% of our referrals from MD's!"

  • Franklin Gilbert, DC
  • Manhattan, NY

“The first month after the seminar I had 5 MD offices booked for meet & greets. I had a great response following Dr. Strauchman’s advice, and have been getting solid patient referrals since. I was surprised at how straightforward and easy-to-implement the this information really is.”

  • Arthur Niederkohr, DC
  • New Baltimore, MI

Call the Pettibon Institute to register for this course at (888) 774-6258. The cost of the course includes the sample forms binder. We encourage all attending physicians to bring a staff member for free to learn how to put this material into action first thing Monday morning.

The Popeye Moment

If you have ever seen a Popeye cartoon, you know the plot to just about all of them. Popeye gets beat up, ridiculed, or put down in some way, and at some point he has had enough.  Popeye gets to a point emotionally and physically and then says the famous line “That’s all I’s can stands, I can’t stands it no more”.  You now what happens next; he opens up a can of fresh spinach, eats it, his biceps get huge, and he goes about trouncing on all the people that were picking on him at the beginning of the show.  Usually, somewhere along the way, he rescues Olive Oil, and always ends up being the hero.

So the question is:  Have you had your ‘Popeye Moment’ yet?  Have you been beaten up by poor results, non-compliant patients, attorneys, insurance companies, staff turnover, or anyone else you feel has an influence in your life?  Have you reached the time in your career where you had to say “That’s all I’s can stands, I can’t stands it no more”? Well if you have, then it is time to do something about it.  And the Pettibon System has just the right tools for you; if you are willing to use them.

These are interesting times economically as well as in the profession of Chiropractic; and these are very exciting times at The Pettibon Institute and The Pettibon System.  We have instituted several major changes this year which have reaped great rewards for our clients. The Advanced 3 Day event with Dr. Burl and Sharon was a huge success;  we have officially begun the Mentorship Program; we will be introducing a PhD program in the near future,  major changes are under way in Gator Notes, the premier teaching tool for the Pettibon System;  our Live Courses have been re-worked to rave reviews; a new CD of all Pettibon Research Articles will be available in early September,  the On-Line Courses are hitting record numbers;  and the Advanced Practicum’s are now a reality.  It has been quite busy year for us, and we are just half way through. We are on the move continually looking for ways to help you.

But you know, it’s impossible to steer a parked car.  The one thing that has to happen is that you have to Get Moving; then you can correct your course as you go.  Nothing ever happens if you are stagnant.  We have placed many many options in front of you to get involved and have created many opportunities for you to eat your spinach and become the hero in your life again. Don’t let your spinach grow stale.  Get moving and do something, today. Join us in this movement to re-create Chiropractics’ original intent and continue to learn how the Deliver the Promise of Spine and Posture Correction.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of us at any time.  Wishing the best for you in all areas of your life,

Thomas M. Andrews, D.C., F.I.A.C.A., C.C.S.T.

If I may, an addition to Dr. Andrews' well put State of Pettibon Report…

Who’s in control of your life? It’s either you, or it’s not you. Those are the only two options. My strong suggestions would be:
  1. Decide exactly what kind of doctor you want to be. Maybe you want to do half-baked exams, half-baked or no x-rays, half-baked patient analysis and pop-and-pray chiropractic. If so, the Pettibon System may not be the right fit for you.
  2. Do you want to get paid more and see “cream of the crop” patients?
  3. Are you thinking and acting like a doctor who is seeing “cream of the crop” patients. Are you doing (and getting paid for) an analytical exam? Are you asking the question of every test, “What does this really mean?” Are you using tests that give you real information?
  4. Are you setting yourself apart from the chiropractor who simply delivers the cheapest service on the block.
  5. Are you worried about insurance, the economy or other factors out of your control?

Let’s face it, it’s a hell of a lot easier to give someone a chiropractic recommendation when someone else (insurance) is paying for it, but get over it! Those days are, for the most part, gone forever. You need to re-invent yourself to deliver better service than the competition, and the competition is MD’s, DC’s, gyms, health food stores and infomercials.

If you want to stay in a successful business you must be the best! You must create an atmosphere people will leave your office talking about. A big part of that is that they know you are the Doctor they have been looking for all their lives! Again, you must be the best! The best doctors have no trouble getting paid what they are worth and they have an attitude that exudes they are they best. Satchel Paige, one of baseball’s best pitchers said, “It ain’t braggin’ if you can do it.”

I guarantee you that you, nor anyone you have ever met (who didn’t have to rely on VA benefits, medicare or Kaiser) said they chose a particular surgeon for their operation, because the surgeon “was the cheapest.” 100% of the time, anyone you meet will say they chose their surgeon because “they were the best”. Be the best!  Get moving!  Do something!
